  • Dr.
    Alexandra McLaughry
    Owner

    Dr. Alexandra joined the Barbur Blvd. Veterinary Hospital family in August 2012 as lead veterinarian. She purchased the practice in May 2014. She completed her undergraduate degree at University of Oregon and her veterinary degree at University College Dublin, in Ireland. Since graduating in 2003, she has treated many species of animals, from horses, llamas, and cows to birds, turtles, lizards as well as dogs and cats. She is happy to treat birds, pocket pets, reptiles and other exotics as well as dogs and cats. She enjoys educating clients about their critters! She enjoys dentistry and dermatology as well as addressing such common issues as osteoarthritis in the aging pet.

    When she is not having fun at work she is riding her bike home to be with her young daughters, Fiona and Athena, and husband Stephen. Her furry family members are Gunnar (dachshund cross adopted from OHS), geriatric Boo Radley (black lab mix) as well as Beatrice and Bernice both long haired orange and white former barn cats. She also has a rescue bunny named Robin.

    She loves all the opportunities for activities that Portland offers such as commuting to work on her bike, competitive track bike racing at the Alpenrose Velodrome or taking the girls and her dogs to Pendleton Park.

    Lili Kawaminami
    Relief Veterinarian

    Dr. Lili joined our practice in June, 2010, as a part-time associate veterinarian, she is currently our relief veterinarian. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia in 1991 and then completed her veterinary training at the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. 

    Dr.Lili lives with Sachi and Nami, two adorable Shiba Inus. In her spare time, she enjoys bicycling and is an avid Cycle Oregon participant. She loves the Pacific Northwest and all that it has to offer including hiking, music, and the great local wines.

    Pepper
    Clinic Kitty

    Pepper joined BarburVet in March of 2002. She was the clinic mascot, she the inspiration behind our 'Pepper Club'.

    She had the BarburVet medical team at her discretion and we wanted to provide our clients the same level of service for their pets.  

    Pepper passed away October 6, 2016  We mourn her loss and cherish the memories.  She will always be in our hearts.

  • Trooper
    Clinic Bird

    Trooper is a young parakeet who was brought to BarburVet from a pet store. He was failing to thrive among the rest of the flock and we were happy to give him the extra TLC and individual attention he needed.  He has become a source of education and joy for the staff and clients. He has been working on his fancy whistles, making kiss noises and loves taking baths or looking at his reflection in the mirror.

    CVT/Practice Manager

    Angela moved from Bend, Oregon and joined BarburVet in January of 2011. She entered the veterinary field in 2001 and obtained her Technician license in 2006.  She has been the Practice Manager at BarburVet since May 2014.

    Angela really enjoys interacting with people and their pets. Her goal is to provide excellent client care and making sure their pet is getting love and careful attention during their stay at the hospital. She also keeps the hospital organized and running smoothly. 

    During her down time, Angela enjoys being a home chef and spending time with friends and family. She is kept busy taking care of her elderly grandmother and two teenage sons. She has a Shih Tzu mix 'Benny' and a Pionus parrot named 'BigBird' that she has owned for over twenty years!

  • Miranda
    Certified Veterinary Technician

    Miranda has been with the BarburVet team since September 2015. She graduated from Sanford-Brown College with an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology. She passed her veterinary technician boards the Summer of 2017 and we are super proud of her accomplishments! Her vast experience includes livestock and horses. We value Miranda for her cheerful, positive demeanor and for adding energy to our workplace. 

    Miranda has extensive knowledge working with horses. She has adopted and trained three wild mustangs, Rooster, Casper and Mr. Big. She enjoys competing with them in horse shows and has won many awards. She also works with kids, teaching them how to ride and care for horses.

  • Eve
    Veterinary Technical Team/CSR

    Eve joined the BarburVet team in February of 2017. Her primary role is in our technical team assisting with patient care, dental and surgical procedures.  With 12 years experience in many hospital positions, she can also be found working at our front desk.  

    At BarburVet, she enjoys her co-workers and being part of a happy work family.  We value Eve for her versatility and bringing a calm demeanor to any situation. During her time away from work she loves cooking, art and photography. Her kitty Freya is posing with Eve and she also has another sweet black cat named Imp.

  • Jessica
    Lead Certified Veterinary Technician

    Jessica happily rejoined the BarburVet team in November of 2016. Jessica earned her AAS from the College of Southern Idaho in 2006 and then obtained her license as a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2007. She spent five years at a cardiology specialty practice and decided to delve back into general practice. Veterinary medicine is a passion for Jessica and she thrives on the opportunity to be involved in the paramount care of companion animals and their guardians by extending her compassion, knowledge and experience. BarburVet is thrilled to have Jessica's enthusiasm, skills and expertise on our team!

    Jessica's second passion is yoga. In December of 2016, Jessica completed her 200 hour teacher training with CorePower Yoga. Jessica feels it has been a great compliment to both the stress and joys experienced in veterinary medicine. Her long term goals are to someday see these two passions fuse by teaching yoga to fellow veterinary professionals to alleviate stress and achieve balance through the fundamentals of yoga.

    Jessica shares her life with her ball-driven yellow Labrador named “Hunter,” a lazy rescue bulldog/boxer mix named “Ondi,” and “Miss China,” her beautiful and ever-demanding lilac point feline. She also has an adopted Amazon, Citrus.

  • Kat
    CSR

    Kat was welcomed to BarburVet in May 2017. She has 8 years experience in many different hospital roles which is an advantage in working our front office in Customer Care. Her passion is the human-pet bond and she truly enjoys helping people. Kat loves receiving dog kisses during her work day.  We value Kat for her dedicated work ethic and desire to provide good support to her co-workers and clients.  She is happy to be part of a cohesive team that enjoys their workplace.

    Kat is a good cook and works on her garden when she is not at work. She likes skiing, hiking and spending time in Central Oregon. She has three dogs: Coconut, an adorable round Chihuahua who is sometimes found at the clinic greeting children. Penelope who is pictured with Kat and Mico.

  • Cameron
    Veterinary Technical Team

    Cameron has been with BarburVet since January 2017. He has 6 years technical experience and brings those skills to his position at our hospital. He has a big heart and love for all animals and his favorite thing about veterinary care is the ability to help pets live a long healthy life. We value Cameron for his ability to lighten the workplace with his funny and witty sense of humor.

    Cameron is a Portland native and is an avid rockhound. He also enjoys video gaming, documentaries and anything science related. We consider him to be a music connoisseur, his range of musical knowledge is vast and varied between many different styles and decades. He is pictured with his dog Dizzy and also shares his home with 4 cats and a ferret.

  • Samantha
    CSR

    Samantha joined BarburVet in September of 2017. She came with 3 years of veterinary customer service experience. Her favorite part of working at a veterinary hospital is all the puppies! She enjoyed being welcomed to BarburVet with friendly open arms. We are thrilled to have her organizational skills and enthusiasm on the team, she has been quick to pick up all the details involved in her position.

    Sam loves to spend time with her family and Pembroke Corgi, Harley. She knows all the country line dances and likes to watch movies, especially horror.
