Barbur Boulevard Veterinary Hospital

Dr. Janet Ewing joined our practice in October, 2007. She obtained her DVM degree from Colorado State University in 1990. She practiced in Denver, CO for the first 15 years of her career, as an associate at Anderson Animal Hospital and as a relief veterinarian at several hospitals until opening her own veterinary hospital in 1996, The Menagerie Veterinary Hospital. In 2004, Dr. Ewing and her husband decided to try living in the desert, so they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. After 2 years of unrelenting sunshine and brown landscape, they decided to move to the Pacific Northwest, which they find enchanting. Dr. Ewing was the ER Director at Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital from Jun 2006 to August 2007. She left emergency medicine because she missed the interpersonal connections that are the cornerstone of a pet's relationship with the primary care veterinarian.
Dr. Ewing currently shares her home with her husband, son, 3 orange tabby cats, a Basset Hound, "Penelope" and a very silly Standard Poodle, "Jack", who joined the household after a visit to Dove Lewis to treat injuries from an encounter with a car.

Dr. Kawaminami joined our practice in June, 2010, as a part-time associate veterinarian. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia in 1991 and then completed her veterinary training at the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. After working general practice in the Portland area, she joined an emergency practice in Vancouver, WA in 1997. While she enjoys the challenge and fast-paced nature of emergency medicine, she is very excited to get to know clients and patients on a more personal basis again. She is extremely thrilled to be joining the Barbur Boulevard Veterinary Hospital team and enhancing the human-animal bond through dedication to keeping your pets healthy and happy!
Dr. Kawaminami lives with "Percy" the heeler mix, "Sachi" the shiba inu, and "Trout" the polydactyl black cat. In her spare time, she enjoys bicycling and has completed each annual Cycle Oregon ride since 1996. She is also an avid traveler and is hoping to one day learn Japanese. She loves the Pacific Northwest and all that it has to offer including hiking, music, and the great local wines.
